Since Adobe is supporting Java development for the extension of our server products i believe it’s time to broaden my dev skills. I’ve mainly used Microsoft development tools in the past, however I’ve been learning to use open source tools for Java development. I’m already finding the difference between having everything provided by one vendor vs the open source world. It seems that you have to know what you are after for most open source projects, which can be frustrating. I’ll be documenting my discoveries to help out anyone going through the same learning process.
If you haven’t come across it yet, TheServerSide.com is a great resource if you are learning up on all things Java. There are free downloads of complete books on things like Tomcat plus news and reviews.
I have placed my presentation from last week’s Open Publish online in the new Presentations area of my site.
